Currently Playing: As of February 2020 (Short Update)

Readers of my blog may have noticed four tabs across the top nav-bar, right under the cover photo, including an Open Game License, Playing, Reading, and Watching. The idea was that I would update the last three frequently as I played, read, or watched new stuff. Unfortunately I haven't kept them as updated as I'd like, especially the "Reading" and "Watching" pages (the last updates were in 2017).

Today I updated the Currently Playing page to include an upcoming Old School Essentials game I'll be running for my daughter and an Achtung! Cthulhu game I've been playing in, and updating the status on my other currently running games.

Check it out and let me know what games/systems you're all playing in now.

  1. 2020 has had a bit of a choppy start for me and my group, and the only thing we're playing is D&D5; we started the "Descent Into Avernus campaign, but halted that after one session and are now playing a loose sandboxish Eberron game.

I'm also playing in a local Blood Bowl league, which has been fun, even if the match results haven't been good!

I'm going to run a bit of Cyberpunk 2020 this year, because it seems appropriate, and I've had requests from my group to run both the Trail of Cthulhu campaign Eternal Lies, and the 13th Age Stone Thief megadungeon. We will see if either of the latter gets to the table.

    1. I've seen a few of your Blood Bowl social media posts and have always chuckled to myself because my experience with the entire array of Games Workshop games is that I love the lore, the ideas, the figures, and I used to really love painting. But, I suck at playing. I have both a Skaven and a Dark Elf team from around 1993 or 1994 that I love, but neither has ever won a game!

I still have had no luck getting into 5E. I only ever played one game at a convention years ago (I blogged about it) and it was poor experience, not due to the mechanics, but due to the DM.

I'm excited to read about your potential Cyberpunk 2020, Trail of Cthulhu, and 13th Age games. I remember being intrigued by Cyberpunk back in the 1980's and 1990's when I saw the ads in Dragon magazine, but I've never played or even seen it. And, I have the 13th Age rule book and there's a lot of stuff in there that I really like, but at this stage, I think I'd most likely just grab bits and pieces and port them over to another more rules-light system like Old School Essentials rather than play it "straight."

Lastly... on the art front, I'm considering trying to clean up some of these Expert/Specialist classes I've been posting and putting them up as a "PWYW" type thing, but I'd love to have some custom art for them. I know you're swamped working on stuff (I'm really looking forward to your map for Barbarians of the Ruined Earth), but if you are open to some commissions still, let me know!

    2. I'm happy to take on commissions once March is over and the deadline crunch. Let me know!

I played one session of Cyberpunk 2020 back in around 1996 or so. It may not have even got as far as gameplay; it's possible we just did character generation. I was given the boxed set a few years ago by a local gamer moving on from the hobby, and it seems a waste not to give it a go this year.

    3. Fantastic! I'll try to clean up my layouts and everything else and then chat with you about some art.

I'm looking forward to reading about your Cyberpunk game - hopefully you'll blog about it!
